ABOUT THIS PIECE

Inspired by the ancient Greek myths THE TWELVE HORAI (Horae) were goddesses of the hours of the day (and perhaps also the twelve months of the year). They guided the path of the sun-god Helios as he journeyed across the globe, controlling the seasons. The gold is also a nod to the 15th century art of Japanese kintsugi in which repairs are made in gold to celebrate the opportunity to heal and grow that our flaws give us.

ABOUT ORLANDO VILLATORO

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in game design, Salvadorian artist Orlando
Villatoro encounters what he perceives as "glitches" constantly, both in the digital
world and IRL (in real life). Glitches to him are occurrences of beauty, collisions
within ourselves that define us as individuals. In his paintings, Villatoro collides
hundreds of years of art and pop, layering them together in interesting and
unexpected ways. To him, it is all a reflection of the nature of being human.
