ARTIST STATEMENT
The processes of life are concatenated in a coherent dynamic of disordered appearance. The hidden order of these vital processes creates the necessary balance for the existence of the reality in which we are immersed. The observation of this experience has inspired me to recreate my own version of this idea. Composing with the trajectory of airplanes that intertwine in perfect synchrony. Lines and empty spaces create a metaphorical fabric whose reality expresses the complexity of this concept, and reveals the perfect beauty of life, through art.
ABOUT JORGE LOPEZ PARDO
Jorge Lopez Pardo makes slow, meticulous compositions that speak to his experiences as a Cuban citizen and seek to express universal truths about the nature of life and the experience of being an individual in an ever-changing landscape. His works of graphite on canvas are in such high demand that he creates and places his work immediately in collections all over the world, a testament to their depth and appeal.
Born in Trinidad, but living and working in Havana, Jorge Lopez Pardo has exhibited his images of alienation in Cuba, Spain, Mexico, and Miami. He has won prizes and exhibited in prestigious art fairs. Painting and drawing isolated and sometimes suspended objects, often revealingly titled “Self-Portrait,” Lopez Pardo’s work obliquely captures the loneliness and sense of limbo— the neither here nor there— of living and working in contemporary Cuba. Using an exquisitely restrained palette and subject matter, there is a singular elegance and detail to the images that paradoxically speak not of beauty but of solitude.
